Designed and developed Aphrones, a convertible over-ear headphone concept that addresses the needs of individuals with textured and protective hairstyles. The design replaces the traditional overhead band with a behind-the-neck architecture to avoid flattening or snagging hair, while incorporating a dial-based clamp adjustment system and rotating cups that allow seamless transition between neckband and overhead modes.
Highlights
- Developing a dial-to-clamp adjustment mechanism using Bowden cables and worm gears to deliver customizable, symmetric pressure for comfort and acoustic seal in both orientations.
- Applied human-factors principles to produce SolidWorks CAD and prototypes, validating ergonomics, feasibility, and durability of each subsystem.
- Owning the full path from concept and mechanism design through prototyping and manufacturing-feasibility.
